Issues with Cast

There is a known limitation where touches or swipe gestures aren’t supported depending on the “Perform Touch Gestures” settings of the iPhone. When the “Perform Touch Gestures” setting is turned “ON”, pressing buttons work as expected, however, swipe gestures on the head unit screen are not possible. When the “Perform Touch Gestures” setting is turned “OFF”, swipe gestures are supported, however, pressing buttons requires a slightly longer press than normal.

If the Home screen icons start to jiggle you can prevent entering arrange mode on iOS while using WebLink Cast if you avoid swiping the app icons. Instead, swipe on a blank space of the home screen or on the bottom portion where the dots are located.

We suggest, adjusting this setting to “ON” or “OFF” and see which setting works best for you. To adjust the “Perform Touch Gestures” setting on your iPhone, go to Settings, Accessibility, Touch, Assistive Touch, Perform Touch Gestures.

In addition, go to Settings, Accessibility, Touch, Assistive Touch and verify the following:

  • Assistive Touch is On
  • Dwell Control is Off

This is a known limitation of WebLink Cast. Sound from the iOS Music app goes silent when WebLink Cast is started. Other music apps will continue to play sound via Bluetooth and USB.

Some vehicle systems use Bluetooth to transfer audio from the smartphone to the vehicle speakers. To connect your smartphone audio via Bluetooth, please follow the steps in your vehicle screen manual.

For permissions to take effect, you may need to tap the Back button inside your Android settings prior to switching back to WebLink on your smartphone.

To avoid calibration failure while WebLink Calibration is in progress:

  1. Do not touch your iOS screen.
  2. Ensure iOS is in portrait orientation.
  3. Do not tilt or move your smartphone and keep it in an upright position.
  4. The round Assistive button should not be at the top left position of your iOS screen. Move the Assistive button to any other area on your screen.
  5. After calibration is completed successfully, go back to the iOS home screen. WebLink Cast will begin broadcasting on the vehicle screen.

If calibration fails due to one of the reasons above, restart the WebLink Cast app to reinitiate the calibration process.

When first establishing a USB connection between Android and your vehicle screen, you are prompted with the following message: WebLink Host App – Open WebLink Host App to handle WebLink Client? Make sure to choose Always open WebLink Host app when WebLink Client is connected.

For the best WebLink Cast experience with Portrait Orientation Lock On, keep your smartphone screen in portrait orientation. To switch to landscape orientation, turn Portrait Orientation Lock Off and ensure iOS is in landscape orientation.

To prevent the WebLink connection from dropping, you will need to change the Battery Optimization in your smartphone settings. You can modify it either from the phone settings or the WebLink app settings.

This is a known limitation related to Xiaomi’s battery management and background apps handling. In order to be able to return to the WebLink Home screen during Cast, follow these steps:

  1. Allow Overlay permission for WebLink Host App
  2. Long-press the WebLink Host App icon and navigate to Other permissions
  3. Inside Other permissions, enable Display pop-up window and Display pop-up windows while running in the background permissions

Additionally, follow these steps for each app for a better user-experience:

  1. Access the App info
  2. Navigate to Battery saver
  3. Change the default setting (usually MIUI Battery saver) to No restrictions

If the above steps didn’t help resolve your issue, you might also need to go through the following steps:

  1. While both WebLink Host App and Waze are open, access and expand the list of currently running apps.
  2. Long-press each app until a set of icons appears.
  3. Select the lock icon for both WebLink Host App and Waze. As a result, the apps will be locked in the background and won’t be accidentally cleared by MIUI battery optimization

  3. Select Your Apps
  4. Select Battery
  5. Select Battery Optimization
